What Does God Say About Himself?

In Exodus 34:6-7 He says this to Moses,

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children to the third and fourth generation."
And God spoke all these words: in Exodus 20: a clearer discourse.
I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt out of the land of Slavery. You shall have no other god's before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to to the third and fourth generation of those who HATE me, but showing LOVE to a THOUSAND generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

And God spoke all these words:

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath unto the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.  For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day.  therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.  Honor your father and mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God has given you.
You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony against your neighbor, you shall not covet your neighbors house or wife, or his male or female servant, ox, donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
neighbor.”
God does not want to punish, but he is righteous and He will.  The compassion He chooses to show is amazing. He cared enough to give us his commandments, to teach us how to worship and love Him.
There is a lot of detail in the first 4 commandments relating to how we worship God. In the next 6, we learn how He wants to to relate to and treat each other.  What a pure and lovely group of commandments!
And because god Loves the World, He sent HIS SON, to die for us, to pay the penalty for our sin, not his own, and now we can live in right standing with a Holy God who desires to have a relationship with us.  You have heard it said that God is Love. God is the personification of love.
1 Corinthians describes love in Chapter 13:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self seeking. It is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

Through Faith in Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven and there is no record of our wrong.
God sees us through His Son.  We are cleansed of our sin because of Christ.

Following the commandments will not save us.  Because if we fail in one point, we are guilty of all.  But looking to Christ, the provided Lamb of God, the once and for all perfect sacrifice for sin, we are cleansed and forgiven.

Now, we do want to follow His commandments; but not in order to earn salvation or keep it; but out of our Love for our Lord, and all that He has done for us.

A few more scriptures to describe Jesus Christ, our Savior:

John 1: 1-4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high... Hebrews 1:1-3For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him. John 1:17-18
